Assume drivers can't see you..Ride assuming that you and your motorcycle are totally invisible.That means you must never assume that drivers can see you..The odds are they can't so don't believe it yourself, and always have a plan for dangerous traffic situations..Motorcycle safety depends on you..
Leave plenty of space in front,back, and to your side..Be an Island..Stay away from traffic as much as possible..This gives you more visibility and more time to react to situations..
Anticipate situations and know what to do when you see them coming..Analyze what vehicles are doing and potentially the outcome..Then make sure you're ready to avoid a traffic situation..
Beware of oncoming motorists turning left in front of you at intersections..This is the leading cause of deaths for motorcycle riders..Slow down before you enter an intersection..Have an escape route planned..Stay visiable and alert..Don't travel to close to cars in front of you..Position yourself so you can be seen by a driver making a left..
Ride the way you feel comfortable..Don't feel you have to keep up with your friends who may be more experienced or riding faster..Know your personnel limitiations..Know your bike like a horse..Don't let it drive you..You drive it..
Beware of taking curves you do not know especailly at night..In the spring beware of sand that has not been swept up and in the fall for leaves that are wet and slippery..
Don't give in to road rage and try to get even..Remember you have NO protection should a car turn hostile..It's best to back off and cool down from an incident..There are many motorists who don't care that your on a bike..Their emotions rule and your the loser in most cases..
If someone is tailgating, pull over and let them pass..Don't tailgate the vehicle in front of you..Drivers become nervous and emotions take over..
Don't be blinded by sunglare..Where protective glasses with the proper color shade...At dusk there are yellow tinted glasses that give you more daylight until dark..
Riding late in the evenings and early mornings is when there are more drunk drivers out..It is wise to not drink and ride or go bar hopping..Your asking for trouble..Motorcycles are fun but very danagerous..Heed the warnings and live to ride another day..
Take the keys from a friend and lock the ignition if he is incapable of riding..To many bikers thing they are invinsible, especially after having a few drinks.
